SynopsisAlbert-Nobbs-(1)

Award winning actress Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs) plays a woman caught in an unusual love triangle. Passing as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland, some thirty years after donning men’s clothing, she finds herself lost in a prison of her own making. Best known for her portrayals of scary femme fatales, it’s been her wish, since Close first played Albert on stage 30 years ago, to bring him to life on film. Based on a short story by George Moore and is co-scripted by John Banville (Man Booker winner and perennial contender for the Nobel Prize in Literature).

Close, a six-time Academy Award® nominee, is probably best known for her portrayals of the very scary femme fatale – her nominations as Actress in a Leading Role were for Fatal Attraction (1987) and Dangerous Liasions (1988). Her first three, consecutively from 1982-84, were all for a supporting role. Other Oscar® nominations for Albert Nobbs include Janet McTeer (her second nomination), also in a gender-bending role, and the make-up artists who turned Close into a man. Close has netted a slew of other nominations for her role as producer, scriptwriter and lyricist.

An extraordinary supporting cast includes Pauline Collins (Oscar® nominated for Shirley Valentine), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice opposite Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland), while Sinéad O’Connor croons the nominated Lay Your Head Down, a song written by Close herself.
