Commissioned as part of Stonewall’s Education For All initiative aimed at rooting out prejudice and bullying in schools, the comedy drama Fit follows a group of final year school kids as they explore issues of coming out, racism, homophobia and the ubiquitous word ‘gay’, both in their drama class and in their lives.
Friends Tegs and Jordan battle the school louts Isaac and Ryan; Lee tries to deal with being labeled a dyke; the gorgeous Karmel must fight prejudice at home as well as her own ideas of what it means to be lesbian. As in life, all the stories are more complex than at first they seem – closets start to open, infatuations spiral out of control, motivations are unearthed and the rainbow state of the school is slowly revealed. There are strong elements of last year’s hit film Shank, with du jour elements of contemporary Brit street culture – in all its glory – front and foremost.
