Jerome is a Frenchman in Paris with man troubles and one clearly brilliant route of escape – Hollywood. So it is that the linguistically challenged cutie ends up on Sunset Boulevard, planning a starring career in film but dealing instead with the realities of cultural differences, headshots, agents and a city that doesn’t do public transport. Bushman’s film is fun, frivolous and even poignant as Jerome’s problems – in the shape of a ‘ghost’ boyfriend – follow him to Hollywood. Softening the blow of his many reality checks are a street walking Louisiana trannie, an almost-retired bingo hall drag queen named Norman, and an HIV+ marijuana dealer (played by Chad Allen of Donald Strachey fame) who take Jerome under their wing. Lots of fun and an illuminating look at the fringes of the Hollywood machine to boot.
